Sacramento Kings Roster Report 2009-07-14

Sacramento Kings Roster Report 2009-07-14
DRAFT PICKS:

Tyreke Evans, G, 6-5, Memphis (first round) -- The Kings love his ability to get to the rim and defend, but hope he improves his shooting and passing.

Omri Casspi, F, 6-9, Maccabi Tel Aviv (first round) -- He was drafted for his energy and toughness, as Casspi is a fiery competitor who excels in the up-tempo game. He must add muscle and improve his shooting.

Jon Brockman, F, 6-7, Washington (second round) -- The former teammate of Kings center Spencer Hawes is a bruiser in every sense of the word, but his lack of size or athleticism will make this quite a challenge for him.

PLAYER NEWS:

--G Kevin Martin hobbled through much of the Kings' season with a left ankle injury that simply wouldn't go away. And after missing the season's final eight games, Martin had been resting the ankle in his hometown of Zanesville, Ohio, before heading to Florida to work with his personal coach. He is now back in Sacramento, where he has been working out at the team's practice facility. He stopped in Las Vegas on July 9 as well, conducting light workouts and deciding to attend summer league to support his teammates.

--SF Donte' Greene entered Las Vegas summer league looking ready to improve on his disappointing rookie season. He added 15 pounds of muscle, weighing in at 240 pounds after his skinny frame had limited his offensive options in the 2008-09 campaign.

--F Kenny Thomas is entering the final season of his contract and may very well finish his contract with another team. While the Kings have been unable to deal Thomas in recent years largely because of the size of his contract (owed $8.7 million next season), he is now an expiring contract and thus more attractive on the trade front. Thomas has been keeping his game sharp in the offseason, working No. 1 pick Blake Griffin and others in San Francisco with former Knicks, Indiana, San Antonio and Seattle coach Bob Hill.

MEDICAL WATCH:

None.
