It's official: This is the worst Sacramento Kings team of all time -- at this point of the season.
The Kings' loss at New Jersey on Monday gave them an 8-27 record, the franchise's worst through 35 games since the team moved to Sacramento in 1985. Two Kings teams had been in an identical predicament in terms of record, but both managed to notch their ninth win instead of their 27th loss. The 1989-90 Kings were 8-26 before winning a home game against Atlanta, 108-91 on Jan. 16, 1990. The following season, then-head coach Dick Motta and his team found themselves with an 8-26 mark once again, but they defeated Phoenix 101-97 in a home game in what would become a three-game winning streak. These Kings have dropped 22 of their last 26 games.
NETS 98, KINGS 90: Another huge night from Kevin Martin off the bench couldn't keep the Kings from continuing their losing ways. The shooting guard had 36 points on 11-of-21 shooting in his fourth game back from a left ankle injury that kept him out of 22 games this season, but the Kings still managed to drop a 13-point, third-quarter lead at the Izod Center on Monday night. The Nets' Vince Carter and Yi Jianlian combined for 51 points and 22 rebounds, and New Jersey used a 19-8 run in the third quarter to pull even before pulling away.
