Sacramento Kings Getting Inside 2009-12-06

Sacramento Kings Getting Inside 2009-12-06The Kings won't have to wait long to continue looking for the cure to their road woes, but they are undoubtedly sick of losing away from Arco Arena.

Their loss at Phoenix on Saturday dropped them to 1-7 on the road and was yet another outing in which they did everything but finish the job. It's been that way for most of the season whenever they leave the home floor, as their road losses have come by an average of 9.2 points.

But even that doesn't tell the story. Kings coach Paul Westphal has been satisfied with his team's effort in all but three of the eight road games. An Oct. 31 loss at San Antonio stands in a class all its own, as the Spurs routed the Kings 113-94, but Westphal seemed to shrug it off largely because of the class disparity between his young team and the opponent.

The loss to the Suns was much like the Nov. 20 defeat at Dallas (104-102) and a Nov. 21 loss at Houston (113-106), games in which the Kings simply didn't make big plays down the stretch. After hosting Miami on Sunday, the Kings hit the road again, playing Tuesday at New Orleans and Wednesday at San Antonio.

"I'm really happy our young team played them so tough," Westphal said after the loss to the Suns. "And on the other hand, I'm anxious for the day when we can learn the lessons we learned tonight and maybe get a game like this."

SUNS 115, KINGS 107: Five Suns 3-pointers in the final six minutes did the Kings in, as Steve Nash scored 10 of his 32 points in the final quarter. The Kings simply let their defense unravel late and allowed Phoenix to shoot 50 percent (11-for-22) in the final quarter after holding them to 40.9 percent shooting (27-for-66) in the first three quarters.
