Training camp began with a familiar face -- coach Reggie Theus -- running the sessions. And that's saying something for this team. From Rick Adelman to Eric Musselman to Theus, the recent norm in Kingsland was a one-and-done approach to head coaches. Yet while Theus and his expiring contract will certainly be the top issue facing the rebuilding team, camp revealed the reality of the youth movement: There's much work to be done.
For all the upside of rookies Jason Thompson and Donte Greene, Theus said they have a long ways to go to earn significant minutes this season. Both players, according to Theus, have little knowledge base when it comes to defense. And with veterans Mikki Moore and John Salmons looking to hold onto their starting spots (with Salmons filling the role previously held by Ron Artest), no one will get playing time by default.
Of all the team's rookies, free agent signee Bobby Brown might be in line for the most minutes. Having gone undrafted out of Cal State Fullerton in 2007, the point guard played in Germany last year and with New Orleans in July summer league more recently.
