Players Cavs want already here
Cavaliers INSIDER

There were two players in The Q on Tuesday night not wearing Cavaliers uniforms that the franchise has big plans for in the near future. A center and a guard, as a matter of fact.

Their names are Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Delonte West.

Over the past month there have been rumors of varying intensity circulating that the Cavs might want to trade for two Sacramento Kings who made their annual visit Tuesday. Kings center Brad Miller is perhaps the most available starting big man in the NBA right now, and starting swingman John Salmons has also been in rumors attached to the Cavs.

Yet the way it stands today, said multiple league executives Tuesday, the Cavs remain pleased with their roster and may not only sit out the Miller sweepstakes but the trade-deadline frenzy as well. All of which reaffirms the position they have taken for the past month.

If fact, after going through their recent West Coast trip at 3-1 despite being without West and Ilgauskas, the team's decision-makers are even more convinced in the Cavs' depth and chemistry.

Miller, who is still a highly productive center with one of those valuable contracts that expires in 2010, does have a skill set the Cavs would like. He can shoot from the outside and is a good rebounder, like Ilgauskas.

Which is why they have had discussions with the Kings about Miller, but so have other teams. The Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday that Miller may soon be a member of the Miami Heat.

Ilgauskas is due back soon and West around the All-Star break on Feb. 15. The Cavs like how rookie forward J.J. Hickson has developed with more consistent playing time and how guard Sasha Pavlovic has started to return to his form of the 2006-07 season.

The Cavs probably will continue trade talks, especially for a big man, but the big splash some expected this season may be the current group's record, not another major transaction.

Natt hopeful: Kenny Natt would like what most interim head coaches want, to have the "interim" title removed. Natt, who was an assistant with the Cavs from 2004 to '07, took over the Kings for Reggie Theus last month. Though he's had limited success, the Kings recently signed Natt to an extension for next season that they can decide on after this season.

"I'd never thought I'd be a head coach. It is a lot different from being an assistant," Natt said. "Everything goes through you. You have a voice as an assistant, but as the head coach you are the voice. I want to be a part of the building and development process and see it all come to fruition in the end."

Natt is the Kings' fourth different coach in the past four seasons.

Hot-shooting Ben: No one will ever call Ben Wallace an offensive juggernaut, but while no one is watching he's having a solid offensive season - at least by his standards. After going 8-of-12 from the field in the previous five games leading up to Tuesday, Wallace is shooting 49 percent from the field. That is his best number in four seasons.

"You have to trust every player that goes out on the floor," Wallace said. "Otherwise they shouldn't be in there. I'm just playing Basketball."
