Giants' recent moves encouraging I am glad to see the Giants going after some free agents to make the club more competitive next year. Edgar Renteria is not what he used to be, but at least he should provide more punch from shortstop than aging Omar Vizquel could produce. They have upgraded the bullpen, and I hear they might be after Randy Johnson.

After seeing this effort, I might even spend $30 to park at more than two games next year. -- Don Cheshire, Roseville

Hockey fan thankful for coverage We have a lot to be thankful for this time of year, and I am especially thankful for the sports editor and The Bee for the best hockey coverage this paper has ever had. -- Gil Walsh, Placerville

Kings need time to grow Reggie Theus must be given time to develop the young guys and experiment. I am not sure he will be given that time. Management seems to be restless with him, and that spells trouble.

The fans must understand this is a development year and wins should not be important. It seems simple from here, but there must be a plan to develop team chemistry and have players learn how to win. The use of Bobby Jackson at crunch time was a poor decision this past week.

The Kings are in the bottom 20 percent of the teams in the NBA -- the Clippers are lost, Memphis is similar to the Kings, Minnesota is cold, Oklahoma City is not OK, and Washington is without Gilbert Arenas. Fans, be content with the entertainment and excitement, and do not be concerned with W's. -- Carl Gronau, Lincoln
